North York Concrete Polishing for Schools, Clinics and Retail Floors
North York is full of institutional and commercial buildings: schools and colleges, medical and care facilities, community centres, supermarkets and strip retail. Many were built on solid concrete slabs, and concrete floor polishing lets that slab be the finished floor, and polished concrete floors need no covering. It is ground flat, densified, then polished through finer diamonds to a sheen from satin to high gloss.
The appeal of polished concrete in a busy public building is a hard, bright floor with no coating to wear through, little dust and simple cleaning with a dust mop and a damp mop. Quick F/X Epoxy works throughout North York, along Finch Avenue West, Keele Street, Bathurst Street and Leslie Street.
Why Choose Polished Concrete Floors
01
Hard-Wearing Surface
Densified, polished concrete stands up to heavy foot traffic, carts and rolling loads, and there is no coating on top that can chip or peel.
02
Easy to Keep Clean
A polished slab is smooth and tight, so a dust mop and a damp mop with a neutral cleaner are usually all it needs.
03
Less Concrete Dust
Densifying hardens the top of the slab, which cuts down the fine dust that bare concrete keeps shedding.
04
Brighter Spaces
The polished surface reflects light, which helps sales floors, showrooms, corridors and warehouse aisles feel brighter.
05
Your Choice of Sheen
Choose how much shine the floor has, from a soft satin to a high gloss, to suit the space and how it is lit.
Choose Your Polished Concrete Finish
A
Class A: Cream Finish
Only the very top of the slab is ground away, about 1/32 to 1/64 inch, so the surface stays mostly cement paste (roughly 85% to 95%) and barely any stone shows. The result is an even, plain colour for clean, contemporary interiors.
B
Class B: Salt and Pepper
Taking off around 1/16 inch reveals the sand and small stones just under the surface, giving the floor a fine, speckled pattern. It is an understated look that works on most commercial floors.
C
Class C: Coarse Aggregate
A deeper grind exposes the larger stones in the slab for a bold, terrazzo-like look. Which stones show depends on the original pour, so every floor is a little different.
Polished Concrete for North York Supermarkets, Hangars and Healthcare Facilities
Grocery and big-box stores, restaurants, bars and fitness centres use polished concrete to get one hard, light-reflecting floor across a whole footprint. Libraries, museums, galleries and government buildings favour it for the calm, continuous look. Aviation hangars and distribution areas use it wherever the floor stays dry and less dust is wanted, and healthcare facilities and schools like it for the easy cleaning.
On finish, Class A cream suits galleries and reception areas, Class B salt and pepper suits school corridors and clinics, and Class C coarse aggregate suits supermarkets and fitness floors that need to look rugged. Offices on the quieter side streets off Finch Avenue West often choose a softer sheen.
Polishing grinds the slab you have. A floor of new chips set in a binder is terrazzo, a different job. Very soft or badly damaged slabs may not suit polishing, and where oil, chemicals or standing water are regular, epoxy is the better choice, as in our industrial and commercial floors in North York. We prep first, with our own crew.
Why North York Facility Managers and Businesses Choose Quick F/X Epoxy
The finish depends on the preparation, so before polishing begins we take hardness and moisture readings, diamond grind and fill cracks and joints. Jay, our founder, handles the first call and the quote, and he walks the finished floor with you. Our own crew carries out the work rather than subcontractors, and you get a straight written quote and an agreed start.
