Concrete Polishing for Ottawa Restaurants, Campuses and Public Buildings
Concrete polishing turns the slab a building already has into its finished floor. Quick F/X Epoxy grinds it flat with diamond tooling, hardens it with a densifier, then works through finer diamonds to the sheen you want. In Ottawa it suits restaurants and bars in the ByWard Market and along Preston Street, campus buildings in Sandy Hill, galleries and libraries, and the many government and municipal buildings across the city.
What you get from polished concrete floors is one continuous surface that bounces light around the room, gives off very little dust and is cleaned with a dust mop and a neutral cleaner. We polish floors throughout Ottawa, from the downtown core to the airport lands in the south.
Why Choose Polished Concrete Floors
01
Hard-Wearing Surface
Densified, polished concrete stands up to heavy foot traffic, carts and rolling loads, and there is no coating on top that can chip or peel.
02
Easy to Keep Clean
A polished slab is smooth and tight, so a dust mop and a damp mop with a neutral cleaner are usually all it needs.
03
Less Concrete Dust
Densifying hardens the top of the slab, which cuts down the fine dust that bare concrete keeps shedding.
04
Brighter Spaces
The polished surface reflects light, which helps sales floors, showrooms, corridors and warehouse aisles feel brighter.
05
Your Choice of Sheen
Choose how much shine the floor has, from a soft satin to a high gloss, to suit the space and how it is lit.
Choose Your Polished Concrete Finish
A
Class A: Cream Finish
Only the very top of the slab is ground away, about 1/32 to 1/64 inch, so the surface stays mostly cement paste (roughly 85% to 95%) and barely any stone shows. The result is an even, plain colour for clean, contemporary interiors.
B
Class B: Salt and Pepper
Taking off around 1/16 inch reveals the sand and small stones just under the surface, giving the floor a fine, speckled pattern. It is an understated look that works on most commercial floors.
C
Class C: Coarse Aggregate
A deeper grind exposes the larger stones in the slab for a bold, terrazzo-like look. Which stones show depends on the original pour, so every floor is a little different.
Polished Concrete for Ottawa Hangars, Dealerships and Healthcare Buildings
Big open floors are where polished concrete shows best: aviation hangars near the Ottawa airport and at the Carp airfield, auto dealership showrooms, shopping malls and grocery stores, school corridors, and healthcare buildings around Smyth Road in Alta Vista. One hard, bright floor can run through the whole building with no coating to wear through at the doors.
Pick the sheen from satin to high gloss, then the look: Class A cream for a clean, even showroom floor, Class B salt and pepper for malls and corridors, or Class C coarse aggregate where a restaurant or gallery wants the stone to show. Polishing is a different floor from terrazzo, which sets new chips in a binder rather than grinding the slab you have.
Some slabs are not candidates: very soft or badly broken concrete, thin toppings and certain old adhesives, and the quote will say so. Wash bays, cooking lines and areas with oil or chemicals are better served by epoxy, as on our commercial floors in Ottawa and industrial epoxy flooring in Ottawa. Every job starts with hardness and moisture checks and crack and joint filling, done by our own crew.
Why Ottawa Institutions and Businesses Choose Quick F/X Epoxy for Polishing
Polished concrete only looks as good as the slab work underneath, so we read hardness and moisture, grind, and fill cracks and joints before polishing starts. Jay, our founder, handles the first call, the quote and the closing walkthrough. The crew on your Ottawa floor is ours, not subcontractors, and you get a straight quote with the timing agreed up front.
